Denis DempseyDenis Dempsey, PT, M Appl Sc, OCS, FAAOMPT, MMPAA- Owner

Denis earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from California State University, Fresno in 1983. He completed a six-month post-graduate certification program in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) from the Kaiser Foundation Rehab Center in Vallejo in 1984. He was also an instructor for the PNF Residency Program from 1985 until 1988. He then went on to obtain a Graduate diploma in Advanced Manipulative Therapy from the University of South Australia in 1988. In 1994, Denis received an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) certification and then returned to the University of South Australia in 1997 to complete his Masters in Applied Science in Physiotherapy. Since 1992, Denis has been on the faculty at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Orthopedic Fellowship Program in Manual Therapy. He has taught numerous Manual Therapy and PNF courses throughout the U.S., Australia and Europe. Denis is also a Full Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists as well as a Member of the Manipulative Physiotherapist Association of Australia. When Denis is not busy at work he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.

Bernardine ThomasBernardine Thomas, PT, OCS - Owner

Bernardine earned her B. SC. in Physiology and Human Movement Science in 1993 from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. She continued her studies there to complete her Physiotherapy degree in 1997. Since graduation, Bernie has followed her passion working in a variety of Orthopaedic Physiotherapy settings both in South Africa and the United States.

She has attended numerous postgraduate courses including a Year Long Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and Pain Science course with an emphasis in the Australian Approach. In 2005, Bernie was awarded her certification as an Orthopaedic Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Furthermore, she recently completed another Long-Term Manual Therapy Course sponsored by Kaiser Permanente's Los Angeles Fellowship Program. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Keeping her life in balance, she is a marathoner enjoys a very active lifestyle and loves spending time with her family.

Rich HeinzRich Heinz, PT, CFMT

Rich earned a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education in 1982. He later went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Health Science in the Physical Therapy Program in 1988 as well as a Master's degree in Kinesiology in the Biomechanics option in 1992: all of which were obtained from California State University at Northridge. In August 1999, through the Institute of Physical Art (IPA), Rich achieved certification as a "Functional Manual Therapist" (CFMT). Along with the certification, Rich continues to assist in teaching courses through the IPA. He has worked as part of the Newbury Park High School football medical staff and with the student training program since 1989. He has also been affiliated with the athletic program at California Lutheran University. His areas of expertise include: orthotics, foot and ankle rehab, and functional mobilization. In his spare time, Rich enjoys playing softball, golf, long range fishing and photography. But above all else, he loves being a dad.

Alicia SwanAlicia Swan, MPT

Alicia graduated with her Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences in 1996 from U.C. Santa Barbara. She then received her Master's degree in Physical Therapy from Mount Saint Mary's College in December 2000. Alicia joined the staff at NPPT in February 2001 where her post-graduate studies have focused on functional movement retraining of the body with special interest in treatment of the pelvic girdle and rib joint instabilities often seen during and after pregnancy. Being a new mother herself, she has experienced first hand the aches and pains associated with pregnancy and the many hours of holding an infant; she finds it very rewarding to help new mothers with this transitional phase of their lives. With both manual interventions and exercise instruction focusing on core stabilization and integration of our Pilates reformer, Alicia has experienced successful rehabilitation of this patient population. Her background in teaching dance, precision choreography and tumbling helps her with her ability to effectively communicate instructions when training movement patterns with all of her orthopedic patients despite age, gender, or athletic prowess. When Alicia is not busy with work, she is busy keeping up with her adorable baby boy and husband. She enjoys long walks at the beach, hiking, reading, and playing board games with her family and friends.

Tim KuennTim Kuenn, PT

Tim graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science / Physical Therapy from California State University, Northridge in 1988. He immediately began working at Holy Cross Hospital where he worked full time until 1992. During his time at Holy Cross he worked as a senior therapist and coordinated the clinical education program for physical therapy students. He was also the primary clinical instructor for the P.T. interns. He joined the NPPT team in 1992 where he is our senior therapist specializing in orthopedics, TMJ, sports medicine and performance enhancement for golf and other sports. Tim's techniques have developed from the Maitland Approach, the Institute of Physical Art and Gary Gray. When he is not treating patient's sports injuries, he enjoys golf, softball and fishing.

Aarti PrajapatiAarti Prajapati, DPT

Aarti earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from California State University Northridge in 2007. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Mount St. Mary's College in 2010. Her postgraduate studies have included osteopathic techniques such as Strain-Counterstrain, Primal Reflex Relaxation Technique (PRRT) and Visceral Mobilization courses. Additionally, Aarti has taken courses in Movement Science and has an interest in Core Stabilization with an emphasis in Pilates and Yoga.

Since 2009, Aarti has been part-time faculty at Mount St. Mary's College in Los Angeles where she teaches Anatomy and Physiology labs for the undergraduate biology department. Aarti is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA) and enjoys advocating for the profession as part of APTA's Vision 2020.

Aarti was born and raised in Bradford, England and moved over to the United States in 2001. To maintain her work-life balance, she enjoys, spending time with her fiancée, family and friends, reading, working out, and playing board games.

Carol CarterCarol Carter, CPT - Wellness Coordinator

Carol is a certified personal trainer through the International Sports Science Association. She has been a personal trainer for over a decade. Carol has always lived an active healthy lifestyle and fitness was part of her daily routine since she was very young. She has a passion for helping others and pursued personal training as a way to practice this and lead others to a better state of health, wellness and fitness.

Carol joined our team in 2011 and has grown the Wellness program to include personal training, group fitness training; seniors exercise classes and corporate wellness programs.

She has a very wide spectrum of training skills. Carol trains clients who have multiple sclerosis and spina bifida, athletes who need strength and conditioning, our senior population and anything in between. So whether you just want to improve your balance and flexibility, improve your health and fitness or want to cut time off your next running event, Carol can help you achieve whatever your goals are.

Holley Eubank
Holley Eubank, CMT Massage Therapist

Holley graduated from The Massage Center of Thousand Oaks 1n 2009. She went on to become a Certified Massage Practitioner of Sports, Rehabilitation and Segmental Reflex Massage and is an active member of the California Chapter of American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). Holley joined the staff of Newbury Park Physical Therapy in 2010. Her prior experience as an EMT and hospice caregiver has helped her create an effective system of communication and assessment to provide each client with the proper treatment plan according to their type and pattern of abnormalities within the soft tissue. When not working Holley provides Pre and Post massage to athletes at sporting events and personally enjoys a physically active lifestyle including softball, weight lifting and most recently mixed martial arts.

Dan DollarDan Dollar, PT - Founder

Dan founded NPPT in 1986. Over the past twenty years he has grown the practice to twenty plus dedicated employees, including eight outstanding physical therapists. Dan received his undergraduate degree in Physical Education from California State University, Northridge in 1975. Continuing his education he graduated from Children's Hospital School of Physical Therapy in 1977. Over the span of his career, Dan has never let up on learning; he continues to increase his knowledge of the field by attending numerous continuing education courses. He has an extensive background in Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy as well as Temporal Mandibular Joint Rehabilitation. Dan is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys several sports including hunting, fishing, golf and being a cowboy. He would rather be on the back of his horse than most anywhere else. Unless, that is, any of his four beautiful grandchildren are available for a play day with Papa.
